Day 1, students will carve a custom-shaped mold out foam blanks, then learn how to properly sort and glue up seven layers of maple veneer. Veneer and foam "stacks" are then laminated overnight using a vacuum press bag. Day 2, students cut, shape and sand their boards using a bandsaw and power sanders, hand-sanding to achieve a smooth, ready-to-finish surface. This is hands-on learning at its best, making and hanging out with your friend in the woodshop. Make. Each pair will make one (1) ready-to-finish maple laminate skateboard deck. An additional materials fee includes foam and maple veneer sheets.
