Wood + Clay: Make a Tiled Serving Tray

No woodworking experience required.Make a wooden serving tray to hold six beautiful clay tiles of your own design. This class is offered together with Brattleboro's community clay studio, Wheelhouse Clay Center!Learn. This 4-session class takes place at both HatchSpace and the Wheelhouse Clay Center. Session 1 at Wheelhouse (Saturday, February 17): You'll learn to use Wheelhouse's slab roller, and to size and cut tiles allowing for shrinkage. Then you'll work with your teacher on your own unique design for your tiles, choosing from among several techniques offered. Wheelhouse will supply the clay and all tools you'll need. Sessions 2 and 3 at HatchSpace (Saturday and Sunday, February 24 & 25): You'll start by learning the safe use of the table saw, how to cut precision angles, and how to glue up your tray. Day Two will allow for sanding and finishing.Session 4 at Wheelhouse (Saturday, March 2): You'll be introduced to application of glazes and underglazes, and you'll have coaching to finalize your design and prepare the tiles for the kiln. Once you finish this project, you will qualify to use Wheelhouse for future tile projects using day passes. Make. Each student will make six glazed clay tiles, and a hardwood serving tray. Teta makes graceful, functional pottery for the table and kitchen. She specializes in custom dinnerware sets.Instructor: Jesse Pompei, HatchSpaceJesse is the Education Coordinator at HatchSpace. She has been a woodworker and educator for more than 20 years.
