Shou Sugi Ban: Make An Elegant Serving Tray

No woodworking experience required.Shou Sugi Ban is an ancient Japanese technique where the wood is charred for beauty and protection against the elements.  In furniture, it creates a deep, complex ebonized finish, with tons of character. It can be used on everything from a small picture frame to a large table.Learn. Using a handheld propane torch and a practice board, you'll learn proper charring technique, and explore the different effects that can be achieved. After charring, a variety of hand techniques (brushing, sanding, washing) are used to prepare the piece for finish.Make. You'll make a small serving tray out of hardwood to put these new skills to use in a simple but beautiful project.
