Introduction to Spindle Turning | Sept 21 & 22 (Weekend Intensive)

Skill Level: No woodturning experience required.Dive into spindle woodturning in this two-day intensive. With just a lathe and some basic tools, you can transform raw wood into elegant, handcrafted pieces.Learn. We'll begin the class with an introduction to the tools: the lathe, the gouges, and the chucks. Students will then learn how to mount the spindle on the lathe, and how to use gouges and calipers to design your piece. Through practice, you will make (at least!) each of the four projects, with opportunities to continue or fine tune a piece.Make. A rolling pin, an ice cream scoop, a mallet, and a holiday tree made of birch. 2 SESSIONS: Saturday & Sunday, September 21 & 22  |  9am - 5pm  |  Class will break for a 1/2 hour lunch.Cost: $425 non-members: $361.25 members (plus a $20 materials fee)What to Bring: Bring a bag lunch, or you may visit nearby downtown Brattleboro to purchase lunch.Partial and full scholarships may be available. Every piece of wood is as exciting as the first. You will never know exactly what you might find. Phil has been working with wood in one form or another for over 40 years. This woodworking includes things like framing houses, building fences, creating furniture and making cabinets. The woodturning bug started when he was gifted a wood lathe, and he has never looked back.
